frequently asked questions
1) Does my child need to be toilet trained to attend Hicksville Nursery School?
No, we accept children in diapers.
2) What are my duties as a participating parent?
First, we'll ask you to provide a healthy snack for the class (we'll offer you a list of suggestions including pretzels, gold fish and other similar items, along with juice). Then we'll ask you to assist the teacher and the aide during the day. You'll spend time playing with your child and his or her friends, passing out smocks in the art room, and pretending to pump gas into toy cars in the gym. The full routine is outlined to new parents at the start of each new school year. See Parent Responsibilities for more information.
3) Do you have a play area?
Yes, we have a full-sized gym used daily by each class. It has three main areas:
a) a riding area full of tricycles and toy cars
b) a climbing area in which jungle gyms, slides and see-saws are placed on mats
c) a ball area with balls, child-sized basketball hoops, and a soccer goal
4) Is there a sibling tuition discount?
Yes, we offer a 5% discount off the tuition for your second child attending during the same academic year.
5) Do you have computers?
Our primary focus is not on computer literacy; we find that many of our students get an abundance of "screen time" outside their class time. Instead, they spend the bulk of their time with us involved in active play; working with the sand and water tables in the art room, climbing in the gym, playing with the toy food and blocks and other toys and listening to stories in the classrooms.
