                              Parent Responsibilities

As a cooperative, we place significant responsibilities on our parents.  The functioning of our school depends on our parents.  The school is managed by a Parent Board of Trustees comprised of current members, and with the help and support of all, funds are raised, repairs are done and we have extra support in the classrooms.

                              Board of Trustees

Each May 1, a new parent board begins the task of managing all aspects of the school.  They are responsible for raising funds and managing those funds, promoting and advertising the school, maintaining records and overseeing the committees.  Additionally they are responsible for the future goals of the school.   This is a huge responsibility, but working together as a team, the Board has been able to accomplish all their goals for over 40 years!

                              Committee Chairpersons

Each year new committee chairs take on the responsibility of their positions which include, membership, participation, fundraising, health and housekeeping, newsletter, Scholastic book sales, T-shirt sales and Labels for Education.  Each chairperson manages the members assigned to their committee, maintains records and promotes their area of responsibilty.  They make sure everything is running smooth and what needs to get done, is getting done.  The committee chairpersons work closely with the board to see the goals set by the board are achieved.

                              Committee Members

Parents who are not members of the Board or Chairpersons are asked at the beginning of each year to choose a committee to serve on.  They are asked for a first and second choice and the Board assigns their responsibility based on the needs of eash committee and the parents knowledge and experience.  These members work closely with the Chairpersons to carry out the duties assigned.

                              Classroom Participation

In addition to serving on the Board, being a Committee Chairperson or participating on a committee, each month a parent is asked to be the particpant and alternate in the classroom.  Parents generally serve each function 8 to 10 times per year.  Although we call this day your child's "Special Day" we actually find that parents feel this is their "Special Day".   The participating parent brings and prepares the daily snack, cleans up after activities, supervises the children during all activities, along with the alternate, sets up and takes down the gym and has fun not only with their child but all the children in the class.  This time in the classroom is when you really get to see how your child is growing and learning.

                              Option not to Participate

We understand that times have changed since our school began over 40 years ago and that many  parents work.  Their work and/or other obligations do not afford them the time to participate in the school.  With the flexibility of our school those parents have the option to not participate.  This options still allows your child to receive the same high standards of education without you having to be there.  But this option does not stop you from being in the classroom if your child needs you.  All members are welcome in the school and/or classroom at all times.
